Why I don't believe in motivational speakers anymore
,, Lars, how can you say that - I love these speakers?!"
Most of them are great speakers indeed.
But i have two massive problems with them.
,,Lars, what is it then?1"
First issue i got:
Directly after the event you might feel motivated...
BUT
2 weeks later, you are caught up in daily business again.
,, Lars, I agree, it's hard to change things just because of a talk."
So what impact does it really have, other than entertainment?
Second issue i got:
Most speakers are good at speaking...
Probably way better than me!
But
Most of them talk about stuff they've never done.
Most of them talk about stuff they've never done.
,, Lars, I never thought about this before."
That's the reason why i don't do chaka talks anymore
for me it's important to make real impact
Provide real value
Give real insights!
,,So Lars, you must be a great speaker?!"
Maybe not ;-)
I am still nervous sometimes!
I still need my handout with me to feel comfortable
That's because I am an engineer!
But atleast I am authentic ;-)
Because
I've done and practice what i preach!
,,But Lars, isn't that also entertainment then?!"
Maybe
But i don't talk about methods that were developed by professors
i talk about the struggles and stories we had on our journey...
To develop real innovative products
It's getting even worse...
I am 100% convinced that we found the holy grail of innovation development
i know people are sceptic because there's so much noise out there...
But this radical innoweek approach...
Works!
And we really tried all the other stuff before
Design thinking, scrum, agile, design sprints, etc
None of these actually resulted in any tangible output
and, what is even more important...
fulfilled, happy participants, employees and customers!
,,So Lars, what would you do instead a motivational speech?
the talk should be the first step only
what we need are different experiences...
new positive, active learning lessons, while doing it!
,, You mean actually booking you guys to do an innoweek?!"
Yes&No.
Sure-not everybody has the budget to do that...
But you can also learn it on your own..
Or at least give it a try and read the book!
,,Lars, are you trying to sell me something here?!"
Hell no!
I am an engineer, even if i wanted - I can't sell!
We are even giving away our book for free.
,,Lars, you must be stupid?"
You just have to cover the shipping costs
For me it's important...
to reach as many people as possible...
Because i know how it feels...
When your beloved product fails...
,,Lars, where can i get it?!"
